Master Huijing’s Short Dharma Teachings about the Patriarchal Lineage of the Pure Land School – Nagarjuna Bodhisattva
《淨宗傳承之龍樹菩薩》

Nagarjuna Bodhisattva says in the Chapter on the Easy Path, “If a person wishes to expediently reach the Stage of Non-Retrogression, he should hold fast to recitation of Amitabha’s Name.”
This verse talks about two things, one is the aim and the other is the method. The aim is the Stage of Non-Retrogression, and the only method to expediently reach this stage is to hold fast to recitation of Amitabha’s Name.
This verse comes from Amitabha’s 18th Vow and the accomplishment text of the 18th Vow, particularly the following text from that chapter:
Amitabha’s Fundamental Vow is as follows:” If anyone thinks of me, recites my name,and takes refuge in me, he will instantly enter the state of assurance[non-retrogression], and subsequently attain the highest perfect enlightenment.” For that reason, you should always be mindful of him.
It quotes Amitabha’s Fundamental Vow. That is to say, though Amitabha Buddhamade 48 vows, the content of these vows always returns to, “If anyone thinks of me, recites my name, and takes refuge in me, he will instantly enter the state of assurance [non-retrogression].”

龍樹菩薩的《易行品》說:若人欲疾至,不退轉地者,應以恭敬心,執持稱名號。
這一首偈語在講兩件事情:一是目標,二是方法。目標就是「不退轉地」,要到達不退轉地的方法只要「執持稱名號」;而且執持稱名號到不退轉地是快速的,所以說「疾至」,疾至不退轉地。
這一首偈和第十八願、第十八願成就文是一致的,尤其另一段所講的:
阿彌陀佛本願如是:若人念我,稱名自歸,即入必定,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,是故常應憶念。
就點出阿彌陀佛的本願。也就是說,阿彌陀佛固然廣發四十八大願,但他的本願內容是是什麼呢?就是「若人念我,稱名自歸,即入必定」。

Moreover, if we are endlessly occupied with a variety of trivial matters, we will be easily annoyed, and unable to recite Amitabha’s Name quietly. So, we should treat all matters in consideration of our duties and responsibilities, according to our capacity and circumstances. The mundane world is conditional, so all matters are produced and extinguished according to ever-changing conditions. We should not become attached to them. Those who practice at a Buddhist Center should strive to live in harmony and happiness. If they do, more people will come to their temples. In order to free ourselves from entanglements, we should simply fix our minds on Amitabha, and leave the results to Amitabha.

又事多務雜容易令人心煩氣躁,使念佛不靜,應以盡分而隨緣的觀念看待一切。因緣和合的世間,緣起緣滅,不必過分看重。
道埸大眾,若能和睦相處,便能身安道隆。欲求解脫困境,只有繫念彌陀,任佛安排。

It is natural to have false thoughts during Amitabha-recitation. It is the nature of ordinary beings to have such thoughts. As ordinary beings we are the main focus of Amitabha’s deliverance. If we had no false thoughts, we would not qualify for Amitabha’s boundless compassion.
Thus, knowing we have false thoughts, we deeply understand the concept of “aptitude and teaching as one entity”. If we think in this way, these false thoughts will become the source of shame, humility, comfort, and Dharma joy.

念佛時妄想紛飛乃自然之事,有妄想才是凡夫,才是彌陀正客;若無妄想,則非彌陀對象。
故應以有妄想而更深信機法一體;能作此想,則妄想即是慚愧、謙卑,與安慰、法喜之源。

So, this Six-Syllable Name (Namo Amituofo) is not just a sound, or a word written in black and white; but, is alive and active. It has life – the life of a Buddha. It is verified in many sutras that this Name has immeasurable, boundless, inconceivable, and awesome merit and virtues.
So, this Name is “the name with the teaching” – the name and the teaching are one entity. The Name and its functional meaning match. Thus, whoever, whenever, and wherever one recites Amitabha’s Name, they are one with the Buddha. Amitabha Buddha arrives immediately upon hearing the sound of his Name.

所以這一句六字南無阿彌陀佛就不只是一句聲音而已、不只是白紙黑字而已,而是活生生的、活靈靈的,是有生命的,而且是佛的生命,所以在經典上處處都講這句名號有無量無邊不可思議的威神功德。
所以這一句彌陀佛名是名即法,是名體相即、名義相應,因此,無論何人、何時、何處、何緣,只要稱念彌陀佛名,阿彌陀佛當下即聞聲而來,應聲而現。

There are two kinds of relationships between the name and the teaching. One says “the name is the teaching”, and the other says “the name is not the teaching”. This means that, if the name has its own substance within it, we say “the name is the teaching”. If it does not, we say that “the name is not the teaching”.
If we call the name of a person, however, he and his name are separate. Thus, if he is not present, he will not know, no matter how loudly we call his name, and he will not show up. This is known as “the name is not the teaching”.
However, Namo Amitabha is the Name of the Tathagata of Unimpeded Light. It is infinite in the ten directions and consists of Amitabha Buddha himself. In this way, the Name and Amitabha Buddha are always together. This Name equally possesses Amitabha’s wisdom and compassion in full, as well as his marks, goodness, light, vow-power, paranormal powers, merit, and virtues. All of these treasures are contained within it.

名與法的關係分「有名即法」、「有名非法」兩種,也就是說,名稱跟祂的本體是在一起的,就是「名即法」;如果名稱跟本體不在一起,那就是「名非法」。
譬如說我們念某某人,但他的名子跟他的本身是各自分開的,他如果不在現場,你再怎麼樣的喊破喉嚨,他也不曉得,因此,不會聞聲即來,應聲而現,這個就是「有名非法」。
可是這句南無阿彌陀佛,這句盡十方無礙光如來的名號,跟阿彌陀佛本身是在一起的,所以這一句彌陀名號同樣有阿彌陀佛本身所具足的慈悲智慧,還有相好光明與願力、神通、道行在裡面。

An excerpt from the Epilogue to the Commentary on the Contemplation Sutra

I have noticed that it is difficult to encounter a real school of Buddhism and the important teaching of Pure Land. It is my wish that all living beings in the Five Realms are able to be reborn; therefore, I urge them to deeply listen to this teaching to share with future generations.

竊以真宗叵遇,淨土之要難逢,欲使五趣齊生,是以勸聞於後代。

Sons and daughters have their own karmic blessings, and also their own karmic obstructions. Some karmic obstructions cannot be cleared no matter how holy their parents are. In these circumstances, we must rely on the Buddha’s power, and diligently recite Amitabha’s Name.
A person who diligently recites Amitabha’s Name will naturally protect and bless his sons and daughters, even if he does not dedicate merit and virtues specifically to them.

兒女有兒女的福報,兒女也有兒女的業障,有的業障即使父母再怎麼神聖都影響不了他,這時候就是藉佛力,要勤於念佛。一個勤於念佛的人,即使沒有迴向給兒女,自然這個功德也會庇蔭在他們身上。

The core fundamental teaching in the Chapter on the Easy Path, written by Nagarjuna Bodhisattva, is Amitabha’s deliverance through his Fundamental Vow. It says, “Amitabha’s Fundamental Vow is as follows: If anyone thinks of me, recites my name, and takes refuge in me, he will instantly enter the state of assurance [non-retrogression], and subsequently attain the highest perfect enlightenment. For that reason, you should always be mindful of him.”
The Fundamental Vow mentioned here also refers to the 18th Vow, and not the other vows. It clearly affirms “If anyone thinks of me, recites my name, and takes refuge in me”; only the 18th Vow talks about it, not the 19th Vow nor the 20th Vow. Hence, Nagarjuna Bodhisattva directly calls the 18th Vow the Fundamental Vow.

龍樹菩薩《易行品》的根本核心主要講的就是阿彌陀佛的本願救度,而說:「阿彌陀佛,本願如是,若人念我,稱名自歸,即入必定,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提,是故常應憶念。」
在這裡所講的本願也是指第十八願,不是指其他的願,而且很明確的點出「若人念我,稱名自歸」,「若人念我,稱名自歸」是只有第十八願才這麼講,第十九願、二十願並沒有這麼講,所以龍樹菩薩也是直接把第十八願直稱「本願」。

When we say the “Fundamental Vow”, it only refers to the 18th Vow, not the other vows. There is a verse in the Infinite Life Sutra that says, “By the power of that Buddha's Fundamental Vow, All who hear his Name and desire birth will, without exception, be born in his land, and effortlessly enter the Stage of Non-retrogression.”
The meaning of the Fundamental Vow here refers to the 18th Vow – Vow of Rebirth through Amitabha-Recitation, and not the other vows. In the Treatise on Rebirth there is another verse saying,” As it pertains to the Buddha’s Fundamental Vow, no one who encounters it will leave empty-handed.”
Any person who comes across it can expediently receive abundant merit and virtues, like an ocean of treasures. The Fundamental Vow mentioned here also refers to the 18th Vow, and not the other vows.

我們在稱「本願」的時候,都是單指第十八願來講的,不是指其他的願。《無量壽經》有一首〈本願偈〉說:「其佛本願力,聞名欲往生,皆悉到彼國,自致不退轉。」這裏的「本願」兩個字所含的意義也是在說明第十八願,不是在說明其他的願。
《往生論》裡面也有一首〈本願偈〉說:「觀佛本願力,遇無空過者,能令速滿足,功德大寶海。」偈中的「本願」也是在指第十八願,不是指其他的願。

In our teaching, whether you know or do not know, and whether you believe or do not believe, as long as you keep reciting Amitabha’s Name, you will be reborn in the Land of Bliss. Thus, Master Shandao says, “Sentient beings who recite are assured of attaining rebirth.”
On the other hand, if you don’t know and don’t believe, it is very difficult for you to practice exclusively. This is why we should get to know the teaching, in order to believe and practice exclusively. If we do this, we will have no doubts in the bottom of our hearts, and nothing will obstruct us from reciting exclusively.

我們這個法門是不管你知道不知道,相信不相信,只要你念佛就能夠往生極樂世界,所以善導大師說「眾生稱念,必得往生」。
不過話說回來,你如果都不知道,都不相信,讓你專修也不可能,所以我們就要去知道,要去相信,我們就會專修,這樣心底就不會有懷疑的念頭,也就不成障礙了。

An excerpt from the Chapter on the Meaning of the Non-meditative Virtues in the Commentary on the Contemplation Sutra
《觀經疏》〈散善義〉:

The Samadhi of Amitabha-Recollection / Amitabha-Recitation is not an ordinary practice as compared with the other assorted virtues. Its functional capacity is splendid and transcendent. If a person recites Amitabha’s Name without ceasing, he is as rare as the “Pundarika” (a white lotus-flower).
“Pundarika” means a rare and wonderful flower among humankind. It is also known as the legendary Flower of “Cai”. An Amitabha-reciter is considered a wonderfully good person, in the upper level of the upper tier among all, and a rare and splendid flower among all humankind.
Those who exclusively recite Amitabha’s Name are always accompanied by Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta, as if they are their shadows. They are like close relatives, good friends, and advisors. We receive these great benefits in this life and, at the end of this life, we immediately enter Amitabha’s home - the Pure Land.
Once there, we can hear the Dharma for as long as we like and make offerings to the Buddhas in person. When the cause is perfect and the rewards are complete, why would we foolishly delay taking our seat in that Dharma hall?

念佛三昧,功能超絕,實非雜善,得為比類。 若能相續念佛者,此人甚為稀有,更無物可以方之,故引芬陀利為喻。
言「芬陀利」者,名人中好華,亦名稀有華,亦名人中上上華,亦 名人中妙好華;此華相傳名蔡華是。 若念佛者:即是人中好人,人中妙好人,人中上上人,人中稀有人,人中最勝人也。
專念彌陀名者,即觀音、勢至,常隨影護,亦如親友知識也。
今生既蒙此益,捨命即入諸佛之家,即淨土是也。到彼長時聞法, 歷事供養,因圓果滿,道場之座豈賒!

Recently, I read a short teaching by Master Hsinyun in a magazine. It said, “Morality is a priceless treasure in the human world. It is higher than the hills and mountains by ten thousand times”. We should leave such virtue to the next generation, rather than money. It is most foolish to leave money to them. Leaving virtues to them is the wisest.
It is fine to leave just enough money to our children for them to form their family and develop their careers. Kids and grandkids have their own blessings; so, do not slave like a donkey or a cow for them. Other money should be donated to worthy causes. This will accumulate merit and virtues for yourself and your children.

最近在《人間福報》看到星雲大師引用的一句話:「人間道德無價寶,比山比嶽萬倍高」,所以,我們留給子孫一定要留德,不要留金錢,留金錢是最愚癡的,留德才是有智慧的。
金錢,只要留一些讓兒女夠成家立業就好,兒孫自有兒孫福,莫為兒孫作馬牛,其他的金錢,就用來做功德,這樣你好他也好,子子孫孫都好。

Which path do you prefer? If you choose diligence and vigor in practice, you have to practice various virtues, which is extremely hard. It takes a very long time to get the desired results and you are likely to have set backs before you can become a sound-hearer (Sravaka). Think of Sariputra who took a long time to reach the 17th bodhisattva stage. If even the wisest of the Buddha’s disciples could have set backs, how would we far less advanced people do? When confronted with these facts, it’s very clear that we should choose the Pure Land Path as our only way to enlightenment.

至於要走那一條路,你是要「勤行精進」的「修諸難行,久乃可得,或墮聲聞」的難行道呢?還是要選擇「以信方便,易行疾至」的易行道呢?就看自己的根機與選擇了。
不過以現在我們這種人的一般根機,大部分都是應該歸入易行道才對。為什麼?想想看,舍利弗經過了那麼久的修行,已經修到七住位了,仍然還會退心,何況是我們呢?所以比較看看,我們就曉得應該如何選擇自己的修行法門了。

Among the teachings on cultivation in Buddhism, apart from the ones through diligence and vigor in practice( like the Sacred Path), there is another one through belief. Belief in what? Belief in the easy practice. What is the easy practice? It simply means belief in Amitabha’s readily available deliverance.
Some people may think that diligence and vigor in practice is the only bodhisattva way. Perhaps, it is not possible for us to practice that bodhisattva Way, as it is so easy to see belief as an expedient means? However, Nagarjuna Bodhisattva has a different view. He says, diligence and vigor in practice are, of course, the bodhisattva Way and a Buddhist teaching. However, it is also the bodhisattva Way and a Buddhist teaching that, accepting belief as an expedient means, one arrives at the destination quickly through the easy practice.

佛教之修行法門,除了聖道門之勤行精進以外,另有一種「信」的法門;信是信什麼呢?信易行,什麼叫做易行呢?簡單講就是信阿彌陀佛現成的救度,這就是易行。
可能有人會認為,應該是勤行精進才是行菩薩道,如果只是以信方便,很容易的話,那可能不是行菩薩道吧?但是龍樹菩薩卻不這樣認為,他認為「勤行精進」固然是菩薩道、是佛法,「以信方便,易行疾至」也是菩薩道,也是佛法。

We Buddhists should enjoy pursuing the Way and appreciate simple living. The fittings and fixtures in our homes should be simple and neat, not overly extravagant. Only those items that are used should be displayed, and all unused items should be put away. All displays must be neat and tidy.
We should decorate in these ways because the world is a hostel, and we are all visitors. All excess things are not necessities. We should display things related to Buddhist teaching and the Pure Land, not more mundane things. What we can see should be related to scenes of the Land of Bliss.
These choices show the depth of a person’s faith. If he doesn’t do these things, it means the depth of his faith is not deep enough, limited, or even shallow. The deeper his faith, the more he understands the essence of the teaching. If your faith is deep and your practice is exclusive, the rate of success in attaining rebirth is a thousand out of a thousand, ten thousand out of ten thousand.

我們學佛人要安貧樂道,家裏面的擺設樸實簡潔,不浮華,不雜七雜八,有用的才擺設,沒有用的通通不擺設,而擺設就是要整齊清潔。
因為這個世間是我們的旅社,我們是過客,閒雜的東西都是身外之物,所以太過於世俗的東西不擺設,擺設都跟佛法跟淨土有關係的,讓我們眼睛所看都是極樂世界有關的景象。
這是顯示一個人信仰的深度,若不是這樣,他信仰的深度還不夠,還有限,甚至還是膚淺的。信仰越深才能越得到它的精髓,我們這個法門,你信仰越深越專,千人則千人往生,萬人則萬人往生。

Amitabha’s Six-Syllable Name is the Buddha-body of Amitabha Buddha, which is one for two, or two in one. They are as inseparable as the two sides of a coin. It is known as “one as-such”. It means the Name itself is Amitabha Buddha himself, and Amitabha Buddha himself is also the Name.
His Dharma body is formless and soundless, so that we cannot see it, hear it, touch it, or even imagine it. Nevertheless, the Buddha who wishes to deliver sentient beings must allow us to see him, hear him, and think of him. So, that is why the Name and the shape of the Buddha statue are given to us.

彌陀六字名號跟阿彌陀佛的佛體、阿彌陀佛的佛身是一而二、二而一,是在一起的,是一體的兩面,所以叫做「一如」,也就是名號的本身就是阿彌陀佛的本身,而阿彌陀佛的本身也就是名號。
「法身」無形無聲,看不到、聽不見、摸不著,也無法想像。那佛要度眾生,必須要讓我們看得到、聽得到、想得到啊!所以就「垂名現形」,因此有這句名號和這尊佛像。

By merely hearing Amitabha’s Name of the Threefold Body, a person can clear his karmic sins accumulated over many eons, not to mention if he takes refuge in Amitabha Buddha with right mindfulness [of rebirth through exclusive recitation]. How can he not attain assurance of rebirth?

但聞三身之號,尚滅多劫罪愆,何況正念歸依,而不獲證也。

A person who does not believe in an afterlife cannot believe in reincarnation, the cycle of birth-and-death, and will not consider what happens if there is a next birth.
He thinks death is like extinguishing an oil fire. Since he does not fear reincarnation, he continually commits karmic offenses both physically and mentally through the exercise of his free will.
Despite the evidence of a “next life and reincarnation”, it is more rational to believe in “no life after death and no reincarnation”. However, for our own interests and benefits, we should study and prepare for our future life.

一個人不相信來世,就不會相信有生死輪迴,也不考慮來生後世。以為人死就如燈滅, 所以不畏懼輪迴, 則往往會有無惡不作、無作不惡的身心行為。
「有下輩子、有輪迴」的證據,比「人死就斷滅,沒有任何輪迴」的理由要充足可信得多,所以我們生而為人,對於有關自己切身利害關係的這個來世,我們就要預先去探討,然後預先去準備。

We feel lucky and delighted to have a deep karmic connection from the past,
That allows us to discover the pure Dharma voice of Amitabha.
We enter the reward land through name-recitation in accordance with the Fundamental Vow,
And realize the body of Dharma Nature in Nirvana forever.

自慶往昔宿緣深,

Master Huijing’s Short Dharma Teachings about the Patriarchal Lineage of the Pure Land School – Nagarjuna Bodhisattva
《淨宗傳承之龍樹菩薩》

Regarding the splendor and power of Amitabha’s merit and virtues, Nagarjuna Bodhisattva used “sailing on board a ship” to describe it in his Chapter on the Easy Path. All other teachings are described as “walking on foot”.
Nagarjuna Bodhisattva says walking is painful, making it difficult to reach one’s destination, and there are likely to be set backs along the way. However, sailing on board a ship is not painful. It can be very relaxed, and you are assured of arriving at your destination.
This is teaching us that the karmic obstruction of our afflictions is like a huge stone weighing trillions of tons. Even a small pebble will sink to the bottom of the sea, not to mention a huge stone. If it is placed on the sea of suffering of the Six Realms, it must undoubtedly sink.
However, if the stone is placed on the giant sturdy ship of Amitabha’s great vow, it will not sink, and can smoothly leave the sea of suffering of the Six Realms.

關於阿彌陀佛的功德力量之殊勝,龍樹菩薩在《易行品》當中用「乘船」來形容;除此之外,其他的法門,龍樹菩薩用「步行」來形容。
龍樹菩薩並說,步行非常的苦,而且很難順利到達目的地,往往是中途退墮的;乘船則不苦,很安樂,而且必定達到。
意思就是說,我們眾生的煩惱業障如同千百萬億噸的大石頭,即使小小的石頭放在水裏都會沉了,更何況是巨石呢?放在六道的苦海中, 必沉無疑。
可是如果將這顆大石頭放在阿彌陀佛堅固又廣大的願船上,不僅不會沉,還能夠順利度脫六道苦海。

Master Huijing’s Short Dharma Teachings - Encouraging the Practice of Amitabha-Recitation
念佛警策

Having no further doubt after coming to believe is known as “genuine belief”. If you continue to doubt after believing, you do not genuinely believe. Actually, all people have doubts, greed, hatred, and delusion at times. It is normal for us to doubt various people and various matters.

If we cannot totally accept and affirm Amitabha’s deliverance, it is fine. As long as we feel we have no alternative to reciting Amitabha’s Name in order to be delivered, these kinds of doubts will not obstruct us very much. Even if you doubt, Amitabha Buddha and his deliverance are always on your mind through continuing to recite his Name. You continue to be embraced by Amitabha’s light and never forsaken. Amitabha Buddha will still appear to welcome you when your life approaches its end.

信以後不再懷疑,這就是真正的信;信以後還有懷疑,那現在就不是真正的信。其實人都有煩惱,有時會貪、瞋、癡、疑。所以往往會對某些人、某些事產生某種懷疑。
如果對阿彌陀佛的救度一時不能徹底肯定、認同,也無妨,只要自覺我們沒有第二條路,唯有念佛才能得度,那麼雖有那種莫名的懷疑,則障礙不大。你即使有懷疑,你自己心裏還是曉得有阿彌陀佛,有阿彌陀佛的救度,還是會繼續念佛的,照樣在彌陀光明的攝取不捨當中,臨終阿彌陀佛就會顯現來迎。

Master Huijing’s Short Dharma Teachings about Faith in Pure Land Buddhism
淨土信仰

If we ordinary beings wish to become Buddhas and deliver sentient beings, we must set forth the Bodhi Mind, practice the Six Paramitas, accumulate a myriad of virtues, and cultivate the Buddha Way. We make the following vows:
I vow to deliver numberless living beings.
I vow to cut off endless afflictions.
I vow to study the countless Dharma doors (teachings).
I vow to realize the supreme Buddha Way.
However, although we make these vows, we do not have the capability to achieve them. In response, Amitabha Buddha set forth the Bodhi Mind and cultivated the Bodhisattva Way for us. He then injected his infinite merit and virtues into his Six-Syllable Name, and gave us the Name. Whoever recites the Six-Syllable Name possesses the necessary merit and virtues to set forth the Bodhi Mind and cultivate the Bodhisattva Way.

我們凡夫眾生若要成佛、度人,必須發菩提心、修六度萬行、行菩薩道,所謂「眾生無邊誓願度,煩惱無盡誓願斷,法門無量誓願學,佛道無上誓願成」,但是我們空有其心而毫無其力,所以阿彌陀佛代替我們發菩提心、行菩薩道,然後一點一滴的把功德融入六字名號中,再把這名號送給我們。不管是誰,只要稱念這六字名號,就具足六度萬行,就是在發菩提心、行菩薩道。

A paragraph from the Chapter on the Meaning of the Non-meditative Virtues from the Commentary on the Contemplation Sutra
《觀經疏》〈散善義〉:

Those of the lowest level of the low tier have the fewest virtuous roots.
They commit the Ten Unwholesome Deeds and the Five Transgressions, due to greed and hatred.
They also steal the property of the Sangha and slander the right Dharma. They do not yet repent nor regret what they do.
When one of them is dying, he experiences all kinds of suffering.
Just as the flames of hell appear in front of him, he meets a virtuous advisor with a good knowledge of rebirth.
The advisor urges him to exclusively recite Amitabha’s Name.
Subsequently, following his voice, Amitabha and the bodhisattvas arrive.
Inclining wholeheartedly toward the Buddha, with singleness of mind he enters a jewelled lotus flower.

下輩下行下根人,十惡五逆等貪瞋,
四重偷僧謗正法,未曾慚愧悔前愆。
終時苦相如雲集,地獄猛火罪人前,
忽遇往生善知識,急勸專稱彼佛名,
化佛菩薩尋聲到,一念傾心入寶蓮。

生活教育

Believing in an after-life is the beginning of having wisdom. Several positive and beneficial outlooks on life are thus naturally established:
1. It becomes easy to believe in retribution for good and evil deeds, and also reincarnation within the Six Realms.
2. It becomes easy to set forth the vow of benefitting oneself by benefitting others.
3. To discipline oneself to cease evil and perform good deeds based on one’s conscience, so as to accumulate blessings and virtues.
4. To be prepared for the future life and be free from worry, panic and regret in this life.
5. Eradicate physical and mental illnesses through psychological comfort and spiritual reliance.
6. Because of the belief in the future life, we are well prepared to feel the value of this life and the meaning of living.

相信有來世是智慧的開端,自然能建立起幾種非常正面有益的人生觀:
一、容易相信善惡報應、六道輪迴。
二、容易發起自利利人的願心。
三、有良心監督自己要去惡行善,積極累積福德。
四、知道有未來世,而預先做準備,讓自己的人生,無憂、無懼、無悔。
五、由於精神有寄託,心理有安慰,自然會消除一些身心的疾病。
六、因為相信有來世,能為來世做準備,就會感覺人生有價值,生活有意義。

淨土述懷

Amitabha’s body and mind permeate the entire Dharma Realm.
He can enter the minds of sentient beings.
So, if a sentient being always thinks of Amitabha Buddha,
Amitabha and the sentient being become one entity.

彌陀身心遍法界,進入眾生心念中;
眾生常念彌陀佛,彌陀眾生一體融。
